As I read the documentation, extended communities are only used when it
relates to 32-bit ASNs. Good question. Is the route server configuration
software open source? Are the route server configurations available for
manual inspection?

I recommend IX communities to ignore or remove Extended / RT
communities, and focus on BGP Large Communitie (RFC 8092). The advantage
of Large BGP Communities specifically is that they work exactly the same
for 16- and 32-bit ASNs!
