Amigos, disculpas por escribir en castellano, pero quiero dejarles una 
invitación para celebrar los 50 años de Internet.

*O LACNIC comemora os 50 anos da Internet*

No dia 29 de outubro de 1969 Leonard Kleinrock, Charles Kline e Steve 
Crocker fizeram com que um computador da Universidade da California 
(UCLA) “falasse” com outra máquina, situada no Stanford Research 
Institute.

Estes engenheiros acharam a forma de os computadores transmitirem dados, 
dividindo-os entre vários “pacotes digitais”. O objetivo era 
digitar a palavra “LOGIN” (“conexão”), para estabelecer 
vínculo remoto com o computador, porém, depois do “O”, a máquina 
travou e a primeira mensagem transmitida foi “LO”, e assim nasceu a 
Internet.

O LACNIC comemorará os primeiros 50 anos da Internet com dois eventos 
destacados.

No dia 31 de outubro, a Casa da Internet da América Latina e do Caribe 
se vestirá de gala para receber quatro pioneiros da Internet da 
região, os quais analisarão e debaterão sobre o primeiro meio século 
da Internet e o futuro da Rede. Organizado pelo LACNIC e pela Internet 
Society, o painel contará com a participação dos reconhecidos 
especialistas Ida Holz (Uruguai), Florencio Utreras (Chile), Ermano 
Pietrosémoli (Itália) e Demi Getschko (Brasil).

No dia 5 de novembro continuarão as comemorações daquela primeira 
transmissão de dados, realizada de um computador da UCLA para o 
Stanford Research Institute (Estados Unidos), através da chamada rede 
ARPANET.

Por volta das 17:00 horas o UTC começará um webinar no qual 
participarão os responsáveis por aquele marco que muitos consideram a 
gênesis da Internet.

Participarão do webinar - Leonard Kleinrock (professor da UCLA naquele 
31 de outubro de 1969), Charles Kline (aluno de Kleinrock no 
laboratório que criou e encaminhou os primeiros dados para a conexão 
com um computador a 600 quilômetros de distância) e Steve Crocker (um 
dos criadores da ARPANET ereconhecido mundialmente como o pai da 
Internet).

*LACNIC Celebrates the Internet's 50th Anniversary*

On October 29, 1969 Leonard Kleinrock, Charles Kline and Steve Crocker 
were able to make a computer at the University of California (UCLA) 
“talk” to another device located at the Stanford Research Institute.

These engineers found a way for computers to transmit data by dividing 
them into “digital packets.” That day, the goal was to type the word 
LOGIN and establish a link with a remote computer, but after 
transmitting the “O”, the computer refused to continue working. 
That's how the first message ever transmitted turned out to be “LO”, 
thus giving birth to the Internet.

LACNIC is celebrating the first 50 years of the Internet by holding two 
events:

On October 31, Casa de Internet for Latin America and the Caribbean will 
start the festivities by welcoming four of the region's Internet 
pioneers, who will analyze and discuss the first half century of the 
Internet and the future ahead for the network. Organized jointly by 
LACNIC and the Internet Society, the panel will feature renowned experts 
Ida Holz (Uruguay), Florencio Utreras (Chile), Ermano Pietrosémoli 
(Italy) and Demi Getschko (Brazil).

The celebrations marking this first data transmission from a computer at 
UCLA to the Stanford Research Institute (United States) over what was 
then known as the ARPANET will continue on 5 November at 17:00 UTC, when 
a webinar will be held with the individuals responsible for this 
milestone, which many consider to be the genesis of the Internet. The 
webinar will feature the participation of Leonard Kleinrock (professor 
at the UCLA that day, October 31st, 1969), Charles Kline (Kleinrock's 
student at the lab who devised and sent the first data to connect to a 
computer located 600 kilometers away), and Steve Crocker (one of the 
creators of ARPANET and recognized worldwide as the father of the 
Internet).
